[Ianto has to admit: he’s proud of Jack. Even amidst the worry, he’s impressed with the fact that he’s actually used the restless energy of riding the desk to actually ride the desk. Gray set aside an office for Jack in the Con-G which he’s actually been using, and not just to plot office mischief.
At least a couple times a day, Ianto brings Jack coffee or the teas Annie says won’t hurt Val, and seven times out of ten he’s catching up on paperwork. Owen’s even phoned to inform him that Whitehall has been in touch to find out if Jack was all right because his reports were being filed.
Today is one of the days Jack is working instead of playing chess with himself or some such, but when Ianto reaches the door he’s surprised to hear music…music and singing.
He’s caught Jack singing before, without tipping him off. Errant moments of spying in the stables a bit before announcing his presence, even a couple of nights it was just the two of them in bed and he was feigning sleep while Jack sang softly to their unborn child. This is different.
He hovers in the doorway for a moment, listening to Jack, watching him—enchanted. His voice is good, but like this, more at full volume with real effort it’s wonderful. And in German no less…
He finally enters the office and sets Jack’s cup of coffee down, smiling softly as he tries to peer at Jack’s smart phone.]
That’s brilliant. What is that? German, I recognize a couple words, but I’ve never heard that melody before…
